Just came back from our Island Yoga Retreat in Roatan, Honduras! The trip was absolutely amazing and I am so grateful that I got to share it with an incredible group of people from Winnipeg. It was an amazing 8 Days spent reconnecting with our minds, bodies and souls in such a magical setting. The retreat was filled with amazing energy and I am still feeling the benefits.

The first 4 days of our Yoga Retreat were spent at Upachaya. This was the perfect spot to unwind from the stresses of North American Society and get grounded again. Barb and her staff have created an amazing atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home and is the ideal place to relax and rejuvenate. Our group experienced a lot of firsts together including the Kundalini yoga practice with Barb, the empowering partner yoga class led by Andrea, and feeling the power of the energy vortex.

We all got to have some fun in the sea too with Mario the amazing free diver that led us on an incredible kayaking & snorkelling tour through the mangroves and a beautiful sunset cruise on the pontoon boat.

In addition, we all got to learn about the medicinal plants found on the island and their natural remedies from the fabulous Nola, a local islander that was a wealth of knowledge. That was followed by a workshop with Barb on how to make natural beauty products – it’s amazing how much chemicals we put into our bodies with the products we have at home, so it was great to learn that you can easily make your own natural products at home that don’t harm your body and smell and taste delicious!

Upachaya, which means growing and improving, is such a special place to experience and we all highly recommend experiencing it for yourself. I know I can’t wait to go back!

Our last 4 Days were spent at Tranquil Seas. The atmosphere and ambience was incredible – the design of the eco resort was so unique and thought and love was put into every nook and cranny. Plus the yoga space was incredible!!! Special thanks to Chris and his staff for making our stay enjoyable and very relaxing.

Some of our favourite moments were our yoga sessions overlooking the sea and we loved the classes led by Michelle and Christine with Roatan Yoga. Another favourite moment was volunteering with Sol International Foundation and helping Kirsty and Jacquie make bubbles and signs for the Music Festival!
Now that we moved to the beach we of course had a great time playing in the water smile emoticon and after seeing Mickey Charteris’s presentation on Caribbean Reef Life we had a whole new appreciation and respect for the little creatures and how all the underwater species collectively work together. After seeing the presentation we now knew what to look for when we were out snorkelling and were amazed at the action under the water a short swim off the beach. We highly recommend watching Mickey’s presentation!

While 2 of us experienced an incredible dive, the others were out kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. No shortage of activities to do… but most importantly it was such a tranquil setting to relax, find a hammock and chill. A great ending to an amazing retreat!
