Your Self-Guided Adventure: This 9 day journey begins in Reykjavik where you will be spending 2 days visiting the sights of this colourful capital. After your time in Reykjavik you will embark on a 7 day road trip through South Iceland to witness some iconic sights that Iceland is known for and to discover why this route has become so popular!

What are Self-Guided Adventures?

Welcome to our South Iceland Self-Guided Adventure - a chance to explore the southern route of the island as a local on your own or with a small group of like-minded individuals without a structured itinerary. You will still enjoy the comforts of having everything planned for you from the moment you arrive, but without a Tour Leader with you throughout the trip. We will arrange your car rental, accommodations, and activities (if desired).

What you will get?

When booking one of our self-guided adventures we will equip you with everything you need to have an amazing adventure. You will receive a GPS triggered map that works offline on your smartphone / tablet that has all the points of interest marked as well as a printable travel guide. All you have to do is focus on your adventure and we will arrange your rental car and accommodations.

We provide you with exclusive access to local tips including insider knowledge of the best sights to see, incredible nature & hiking trails, and places to eat. Your daily itineraries will be open to explore as you wish, but we will gladly prearrange special activities and excursions with local guides as needed.

We support small local businesses and our intimate knowledge of each destination will provide you with access to unique experiences including nature-based activities, incredible hiking trails, and off the beaten track gems.  This experience can be tailored for individuals, couples and small groups.

  • 8 nights Accommodations at locally owned establishments which may include:
    • 2 nights in Reykjavik at a B&B or boutique hotel
    • Spend 6 nights in quaint guesthouses, countryside farmstays, self-contained cabins, and/or Bed and breakfasts as you travel the southern route
  • Detailed Road Trip Itinerary that includes recommendations for hiking trails, activities, restaurants / cafés, Interesting sites, and local travel tips

The following is our route for a 9 Day Road Trip through South Iceland. Once you have booked we will provide you with all the details you need for your self-guided adventure including marked points of interest, hiking trails, interesting sights, and places to eat.

Day 1: Arrive in Keflavik International Airport - Reykjavik – This city has so much to offer, from an incredible art and music scene, to museums, shopping, the Elf School, and some great city hot pools. Reykjavik is also a great place to take day trips from such as the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon.

Day 2: Spend a full day exploring Reykjavik.

Day 3: Reykjavik to Vik. Head South to experience raging waterfalls, steaming rivers, glaciers and rolling mountains.

Overnight at a B&B or Guesthouse in Vik.

Day 4: Vik and Surrounding Area. Explore the southern coastline and black sand beaches near Vik and experience some of the most iconic waterfalls in all of Iceland.

Day 5: Continue along the southern route to Skaftafell National Park. Pass through scenic lava fields, beautiful valleys sculpted by glaciers and volcanos, and stop at the iconic Skaftafell National Park, home to amazing hiking trails, glaciers and the picturesque Svartifoss waterfall.

Day 6: Continue along the southern route to Höfn. This day is all about exploring the glacier lagoons on your way to the picturesque fishing town of Höfn.

Day 7: Full Day exploring near Höfn. Head to experience Vesturhorn mountain, a beautiful mountain on the coastline with amazing colours. Get a chance to experience the culture of this small fishing town and surrounding region.

Day 8: Start heading back to Reykjavik - Countryside Farm-Stay.  This provides you with an opportunity to return to some of your favourite sights and of course experience something new since there is so much to see in the South. You will end up staying in a quaint farmstay situated in the countryside.

Day 9: Depart back to Keflavik International Airport.
