Explore Meghalaya

Step into another world filled with lush vegetation, orchids, butterflies, rushing rivers, waterfalls, and home to actual living bridges…. Travel to the Northeast Tribal state of Meghalaya, a state of great scenic beauty. The environment is filled with undulating rivers, waterfalls, sparkling mountain streams, emerald-green lakes, gorges, precipitous ravines and panoramic views from hilltops. As with most the North Eastern states, Meghalaya is diversely multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious, with an amazing mix of traditional and modern lifestyle.  You will stay at the peaceful Maple Pine Farm, a small family operation only 25 km out of Shillong near Mawphlang Sacred Forest. They haves four cottages with attached toilets, camping facilities, surrounded by agricultural land and bordered by two streams. The farm lies off the grid and is powered by solar and wind. This will be the base for the tour, and a few nights will be spent in the surrounding local communities while you explore the living bridges that connect the rural villages.

During the Fall at MaplePine Farm, expect the nights to be cool and days to be mostly sunny.  Coming into November the nights can actually reach 0 degrees Celsius.  Outside it is cool - so warm woolens or jacket and hat are recommended. The dinning room is usually warm and comfortable to sit in, Cabins are warm in the evening, the mornings may find them a little cool.  All the rooms have been insulated so the warmth stays inside.  If you want to experience the beauty of frost, get up at 5 am and see all the grass white with a light layer of frost; quickly melting when the sun rises.  One of the best times of year is the fall..  When the rice fields turn a golden yellow.. 🙂
