Costa Rica Yoga Retreat

Rancho Burica, Costa Rica

This retreat will take you off the beaten track to Rancho Burica situated on the peninsula of Punta Burica at the end of the road 4.5 miles south of Pavones. The Rancho looks out at the Osa Peninsula where the famous National Park, Corcovado, is located.

This area has an extreme high biodiversity and stunning views from the beach’s deck or from the ‘mirador’ up on the hill in the jungle garden. When you’re walking around in this beautiful environment it’s not unusual to see Scarlett Macaws flying over your head and monkeys howling at you. The ‘mono titis’ (squirrel monkeys), howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans, hummingbirds, sloths and a variety of snakes and everything else you might expect on a jungle walk, flies, swims and crawls around here.

When the tide goes out, the tidal pools surface and come alive with marine life. There is a refreshing waterfall in the garden to cool off in as well as numerous waterfalls along the jungle/beach edge as you walk south from the Rancho. For a nice siesta try one of many hammocks that can be found under the palm trees near the beach.

    A Typical Day…

Wake up at 7am with a morning yoga session followed by a delicious healthy breakfast. After breakfast head to the beach to surf the waves and return just in time for lunch. After lunch go for an afternoon hike in search of a refreshing waterfall followed by a nap on the hammock or a massage treatment. The evenings you will have the option of attending another yoga or meditation session followed by a delicious locally sourced meal.

The beauty is to have an unstructured itinerary so you can find time to slow things down and reconnect with yourself. We live in such a chaotic world that sometimes simplicity is a beautiful thing. Plus it leaves room for spontaneous moments.

    Rancho Burica

Where the bad road ends and the good life begins… Rancho Burica thrives by Costa Rica’s law of the land ‘pura vida’ which translates to ‘pure life’. This expression is used in many forms from a greeting to a synonym to “excellent”. Ticos (Costa Ricans) follow this lifestyle and are some of the most wonderful people on earth – it simply goes by a life motto to live by for the locals and you will quickly realize why!

At Rancho Burica you will enjoy the simple life again – you have basic comforts for your accommodations and stay in comfortable cabanas with fans (no a/c) and we can accommodate single, double, triple and dorm room occupancy. Life in Costa Rica is meant to be enjoyed outside, so you’ll find beautiful verandas with hammocks, comfortable common areas, an outdoor yoga platform, beautiful garden areas, and close access to beaches, waterfalls and jungle walks.

    More About the Region

The Golfito area around Southern Costa Rica is often referred to as the last frontier. A remote and secluded region of the country, Southern Costa Rica is an unexplored rugged wilderness, where the amenities are basic, but it’s a region where one can experience an alternative Costa Rica compared to the hustle and bustle of more popular touristy destinations.

Rancho Burica is located 4.5 miles south from Pavones. Known as a surfer's haven, Pavones is a small community located along the southern Pacific Coast. Pavones isn't just another Costa Rica surfer town - this region is home to some of the best, longest waves in the world. This remote village can be a challenge to trek to, but as the second longest left behind Chicama, Peru, the travels may be worth it. Pavones is also surrounded by diverse wildlife in the lush rainforest nearby.

Not much of a surfer? This area has plenty of other activities to offer those who plan a visit here. Due to its location along the ocean, sport fishing is quite popular as well as canopy tours and horseback riding through the forest and along the beach. The long, beautiful beaches are also a great place to simply relax, sunbathe or take a long stroll.
