Your Self-Guided Adventure: Embark on a uniquely designed itinerary that showcases one of the best off the beaten track adventures on Vancouver Island – the southwestern route.

  • Experience the Juan de Fuca coast and its epic hikes, ancient forests, and mighty surf
  • Opportunities to spot orcas, harbour seals, sea lions, black bears, eagles, a variety of sea bird species, and the elusive cougar
  • Option to embark on a whale watching excursion
  • Treat yourself to a night’s stay at the oceanfront Point no Point Resort on the Juan de Fuca coast
  • Witness or partake in the local surf culture at Jordan River
  • Hike through old growth forests with douglas fir and cedar trees that seem surreal

What are Self-Guided Adventures?

Welcome to our Vancouver Island Self-Guided Adventure - a chance to explore the island as a local on your own or with a small group of like-minded individuals without a structured itinerary. You will still enjoy the comforts of having everything planned for you from the moment you arrive, but without a Tour Leader with you throughout the trip. We will arrange your car rental, accommodations, and activities (if desired).

What you will get?

When booking one of our self-guided adventures we will equip you with everything you need to have an amazing adventure. You will receive a GPS triggered map that works offline on your smartphone / tablet that has all the points of interest marked as well as a printable travel guide. All you have to do is focus on your adventure and we will arrange your rental car and accommodations.

We provide you with exclusive access to local tips including insider knowledge of the best sights to see, incredible nature & hiking trails, and places to eat. Your daily itineraries will be open to explore as you wish, but we will gladly prearrange special activities and excursions with local guides as needed.

We support small local businesses and our intimate knowledge of each destination will provide you with access to unique experiences including nature-based activities, incredible hiking trails, and off the beaten track gems.  This experience can be tailored for individuals, couples and small groups.

The following is our route for a 9 Day Road Trip through southern Vancouver Island. Once you have booked we will provide you with all the details you need for your self-guided adventure including marked points of interest, hiking trails, interesting sights, and places to eat.

Day 1: Victoria International Airport/Ferry Terminal to Sooke - the most southern gateway to Canada’s authentic west coast and only 60 minutes from Victoria. The main draw here is access to the great outdoors. So few travellers venture out to this southern route on the island and choose the more popular East Coast or Tofino region, so you are in for a treat! The harbour town of Sooke is a diamond in the rough - you’ll find rugged rainforests, fishing, crabbing, surfing, world class hiking trails, whale watching, wildlife viewing, and a local personality that shares a love for supporting small local businesses with the love for nature.

Day 2: Spend a full day exploring the Sooke Region.

Day 3: Head up the West Coast along the Juan de Fuca Straight. Experience the incredible coastline of the wild west coast.

Overnight at the luxurious Point No Point Resort.

Day 4: Continue to travel along the Juan de Fuca coast to Port Renfrew. Have access to some of the best hiking trails in the world, plus experience the loud personality of the wild west coast.

Day 5: Spend one full day exploring Port Renfrew. Experience colourful tidal pools and magical old growth forests.

Day 6: Take the scenic route across the island to Duncan. Stop in scenic Lake Cowichan area, and then explore the cultural wonders of Dunca, the city of totems.

Day 7: Travel from Duncan to Victoria with scenic stops along the way. Get a taste of the East Coast of Vancouver Island which includes beautiful Goldstream Provincial Park, learn more about Indigenous culture on the island, and experience quaint farm to table cafes.

Day 8: Explore the beautiful city of Victoria. This historic city on the harbour offers a variety of unique sights to see, amazing restaurants representing its multiculturalism, and cultural activities.
